Retail & Warehouse Volunteering

Our shops are fun and busy places to work in, right at the heart of our communities raising vital funds and promoting our services on your doorstep. We guarantee a warm welcome and friendly smile for our customers. And, putting it simply, it’s our people who make our high street shops work and that’s where our retail volunteers come in as we turn clothes into cash.

From steaming clothes to counting the cash and sorting items and helping our customers, there’s also eye-catching displays to create that make our high streets sing and put money in the till.

It’s all about the customer service and teamwork too. So, if you volunteer in our shops it’s a brilliant way to make friends, do something local and a your develop skills while you support us.

If you’re savvy on a computer and like working in a team our warehouse is a great place to volunteer. We run our Online sales here so our volunteers get involved in listing our items online and picking and packing to get them ready for sale and delivery as well as work closely with our shops as we move stock.

Events and Fundraising Volunteering

We certainly do put the FUN into fundraising here. We work hard but you’ll hear laughter and see smiley faces while we’re doing it. Our volunteers in our fundraising team might regularly help us or get involved now and again at our events. See some of the ways you can be part of this.

There’s a variety of ways you can be a volunteer fundraiser. You may be up for shaking a bucket in a Tenovus Cancer Care t-shirt and telling people in local communities about our services or being a public ambassador or local champion of our wo.

Perhaps you want to get a group of friends together to set up or join one of our Friends of Tenovus Cancer Care groups (FOTs). Our Friends of Tenovus Cancer Care groups come up with creative fundraising ideas and put on local events where they live to promote Tenovus Cancer Care. FOT groups have raised money and awareness by doing things like coffee mornings, bingo, putting on pantomimes and selling handmade crafts.

As we fundraise through events there’s always a helping hand needed to make sure things go off smoothly. It might be that one of our Challenge Events like supporting a running, cycling, swimming or walking event captures your attention. So, you might marshal to keep people safe, cheer our fundraisers along or run our welcome and registration desk on the day or help us pack up our fundraising gear to be event ready. Sometimes we even glam up for gala events too so its always good to keep in touch with US about what we’re doing to see where you can help out.

Support Services Volunteering

Our Support Services volunteers really put the care into the meaning of Tenovus Cancer Care’s name helping our service users at times when they need us the most. They work closely with our specialist staff and so you may have professional skills to bring to the role or great customer service and interpersonal skills. We work with volunteers in all areas of delivering our support so there’s lots of ways you can get involved.

This can be helping someone going through their cancer treatment to get the financial support and help they need in a time of crisis. It may mean being that helping hand and friendly face to people receiving their cancer treatment on our Mobile Support Unit. It could be welcoming our choristers or supporting Sing With Us choir leaders organise rehearsals and gigs or that reassuring voice on the end of our Support Line.

Virtual Home based or Office Volunteering

Volunteers are central to the way we work. So, that means you’ll find volunteers in all of departments from HR, IT, Finance and Income Generation all the way through the Marketing, Communications and Policy and helping us with our community insight work.

Our volunteers come from a variety of backgrounds, ages and experience. So, whether you’re a student, unemployed, a professional or employee volunteer or retired we’d welcome you. There are opportunities for getting involved in set projects or regular volunteering helping with our day to work like admin, collating information or promoting our work where you live.

Some of our volunteers prefer to fit volunteering around family or work commitments so micro volunteering is a great way to help even when time is limited so there really is opportunities for everyone. We can help find the best fit for you too if you’re not sure how best you can get involved.

Typically, you’ll be volunteering outside our Head Office but the opportunity is also there for you to work with our staff based there too. Either way you’re supported by your Supervisor and we do everything we can to include you in our teams no matter where you’re based.
